Might be more obvious if at least part of the mill experience was on a horizontal - especially if one had mounted chuck or collet to it, set a cutting bit atop a stack of blocks ..and actually USED it as a lathe.

For a lathe, tooling starts with a chuck and/or faceplate, live and dead centers, perhaps a collet closer, and goes up to quick change tool holders, tool bits with replaceable carbide inserts, fancy automatically opening tapping heads, toolpost grinders, etc.

Apr 27, 2012 · 2 axis lathe VS 3 axis mill = same thing. Really very little difference. Fanuc based G-code is Fanuc based G code. Now if your not using Fanuc based G code thats another story. I find mills easier to program then lathes. But thats probably because becuase our lathe work if more complicated then our mill work. (no 3d work) But just dive in.

Nov 21, 2011 · Turn-Mill machines are those like the Mazak Integrex, Nakamura NTMX or NTJX, Mori NT, Okuma MacTurn or Multus (and many, many others) that are essentially lathes with milling capability. Some have B-axis milling but that doesn't detract from the fact that they are fundamentally a lathe in their design.
